Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Acacia binervia Sterling Silver
Acacia binervia ‘Sterling Silver’ is the dwarf, silver-leaved form of the coast myall, carrying distinctive silver-grey foliage on a dense, mounded frame that often spreads wider than it grows tall. Planted as an advanced shrub, it edges a boundary, anchors a native planting scheme or holds a focal point in a sunny bed, and lemon-yellow rod flowers add a soft seasonal lift in late winter and spring.
Why Sterling Silver Acacia
Signature foliage: Curved, silver-grey phyllodes provide year-round contrast that reads powerfully against dark structures, mass plantings and hardscape.
Rapid establishment: A vigorous native that settles in quickly and thickens into a full, dense mound, making it a reliable performer for projects working to a timeline.
Evergreen structure: Consistent form and colour through all seasons, ensuring the landscape holds its composition year-round.
Drought and heat tolerance: Well adapted to Australian conditions; performs in exposed sites, second-line coastal positions, poor soils and extended dry periods once established.
Low intervention: Needs little more than a light tip prune after flowering to stay dense and shapely, suited to large-scale or low-management landscapes.
Ideal Applications
Informal screening: Dense silver cover along fence lines and property edges, closing views at head height with strong year-round presence.
Specimen planting: A single advanced shrub placed with intent becomes the silver anchor of a sunny lawn edge or native garden.
Contemporary residential projects: Silver tones complement minimalist architecture and monochromatic planting palettes with precision.
Native and rural plantings: Sits naturally within larger Australian native schemes, from bushland-edge gardens to low shelter belts along rural boundaries.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1.5 to 2m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 3 to 4m
Best Planting Season: Autumn to spring
Soil & Drainage: Free-draining sand, loam or clay, including poor and shallow ground; copes with long dry spells once the roots are down
Establishment Care: Soak the root zone weekly through the first year to draw roots down, easing back to an occasional deep watering in extended dry spells. Avoid overwatering and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. Coast myall foliage contains cyanogenic compounds that release prussic acid and is toxic to grazing livestock, so keep prunings out of paddocks and plant it beyond the reach of stock on rural properties.
