Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Limelight Dwarf Acacia (Standard) - Acacia cognata ‘Limelight’
Grown as a standard, ‘Limelight’ becomes a weeping lime-green ball held on a clean straight stem, a soft native answer to the clipped bay or olive standard. The foliage of Acacia cognata ‘Limelight’ is extremely fine and pendulous, almost like a chartreuse fountain, and the colour is at its brightest on new growth through spring. It is chosen for texture and colour rather than flower, and the trained form lets that texture sit at eye level in a formal arrangement.
Why Limelight Standard
Foliage Colour: Bright lime-green new growth lifts dark corners and contrasts sharply with grey-leaved natives.
Weeping Texture: Fine, soft, cascading foliage forms a dense mophead that moves with any breeze.
Formality From a Native: The standard form delivers structured repetition in a garden that is otherwise indigenous planting.
Rarely Flowers: This selection flowers sparsely if at all, which keeps the foliage effect clean and means minimal litter.
Drainage is Critical: Acacia cognata is prone to root rot in wet soil, so mound the planting and never irrigate heavily in winter.
Ideal Applications
Entry Pots: A matched pair in large containers flanking a door reads as contemporary and unmistakably Australian.
Formal Native Gardens: Repeated along a path it gives rhythm without resorting to exotic hedging plants.
Low Water Courtyards: Copes with heat and restricted irrigation once established.
Raised Planter Beds: The elevated drainage suits it perfectly, and the weeping head spills over the edge.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1.2-1.5m for a repeating row
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.5-2m
Best Planting Season: Autumn or spring, avoiding cold wet soil
Soil & Drainage: Light, free-draining and low in phosphorus. Heavy or poorly drained soil is the usual cause of sudden decline, so raise the planting 200 to 300mm above grade on clay.
Establishment Care: Water weekly through the first summer, then rely mostly on rainfall with occasional deep soaks in extended dry spells. Keep the stake in place until the trunk is genuinely self-supporting, rub off any shoots appearing on the clear stem or below the head, and tip prune the head lightly after the spring flush to keep it dense and round.
