Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Agave geminiflora
Where most agaves are built from broad armoured blades, Agave geminiflora forms an almost perfect sphere of hundreds of narrow, flexible, dark green leaves. There are no vicious teeth along the margins, so it can sit beside a path or pool without the hazard that comes with the larger century agaves. It stays solitary rather than pupping into a colony, which keeps a planted row looking deliberate for years.
Why Agave geminiflora
Fine Textured Rosette: Hundreds of pencil-thin leaves give a soft, almost feathered outline unlike any other agave of this size.
Safe Margins: The leaves are flexible and free of marginal spines, so it works close to circulation space.
Solitary Habit: It does not sucker, so a row or grid stays evenly spaced instead of turning into a thicket.
Natural Symmetry: The rosette forms its own shape and needs no pruning beyond removing spent outer leaves.
Life Cycle: After many years it sends up a single tall flower spike and then dies, having spent a decade or more as a perfect sphere.
Ideal Applications
Poolside Beds: Soft leaved and low littering, suited to bare feet and wet paving.
Path Edging: Repeated along an entry walk where a spiny agave would be unsafe.
Modern Courtyards: Planted in a grid through gravel for a rhythm of identical green spheres.
Large Containers: Ideal as a single specimen in a wide bowl on a terrace.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.8 to 1m for a massed drift
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.2 to 1.5m
Best Planting Season: Spring through to early autumn
Soil & Drainage: Sharp drainage is essential, in sand, gravel or free draining loam. Wet winter soil is the main cause of failure.
Establishment Care: Water fortnightly through the first summer only, then rely on rainfall in most districts. Mulch with gravel and keep organic matter away from the crown, which rots easily if buried.
