Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Agave guiengola ‘Creme Brulee’
Wide chalky white blue leaves held in a low open rosette make Agave guiengola one of the most sculptural of the smaller agaves, and ‘Creme Brulee’ adds a soft cream margin that warms the whole plant. The species grows on limestone outcrops in Oaxaca, so it wants heat, light and grit, and it stays broad and flat rather than building height. Unlike many agaves it offsets readily, forming a slowly spreading colony.
Why Creme Brulee Agave
Chalky foliage: A powdery white bloom over pale blue green leaves gives one of the palest tones available in a hardy succulent.
Cream margins: The variegated edge softens the outline and lifts the plant against dark gravel or basalt.
Low and wide: It reads as a pattern on the ground rather than a vertical accent, useful in the foreground of a bed.
Offsets freely: Pups form around the parent, so a single plant develops into a colony over time.
Limestone tolerance: Alkaline and rocky soils that trouble other succulents are its natural conditions.
Ideal Applications
Gravel garden foreground: Placed at the front of a dry bed where the flat rosette can be looked down on.
Bowls and troughs: The shallow spreading habit suits wide low containers better than tall pots.
Warm wall beds: Reflected heat and shelter from winter rain suit it well.
Modern courtyard: Pairs with pale rendered walls and honed concrete where the chalky tone is echoed.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.9 to 1.2m for a massed group
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.5m
Best Planting Season: Spring and summer, while soil is warm and drying quickly
Soil & Drainage: Very free draining, gritty and preferably alkaline; mound the planting position in any soil that holds moisture
Establishment Care: Water sparingly, roughly every two weeks in the first warm season, and stop almost entirely through winter, since cold wet soil is what kills this species. Top dress with 40mm of gravel to keep the lower leaves dry and reflect heat into the rosette.
