Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Alexandra Palm (Multi-Stem) - Archontophoenix alexandrae
A multi-stem Alexandra palm is several palms grown together at staggered heights, so the clump reads as an established stand rather than a single bare trunk. Archontophoenix alexandrae is the north Queensland rainforest palm behind most resort and poolside planting in warm Australia: slender ringed trunks, a clean green crownshaft, and fronds with silver undersides that flash when the breeze moves. It is faster and more heat driven than the Bangalow palm, which is why designers reach for it in genuinely warm coastal gardens.
Why Alexandra Palm
Layered clump: Staggered trunk heights give three tiers of canopy instead of one, filling a courtyard or pool corner immediately.
Silver frond reverse: The leaf undersides are distinctly silver grey, so the canopy shifts tone with every gust.
Self cleaning trunk: Spent fronds drop away cleanly from the ringed grey trunk, leaving very little pruning or clean up.
Small footprint: Roots are fibrous and non invasive, so clumps sit comfortably close to paving, pool coping and paths.
Genuine speed: Given warmth, water and feeding it is among the fastest palms grown in Australia.
Ideal Applications
Poolside feature: The clump gives height and shade without the bulk of a shade tree or the mess of a fruiting canopy.
Entry statement: A single multi-stem clump either side of a driveway entry frames the approach with instant scale.
Courtyard and light well: Narrow trunks let a clump occupy a tight space while the canopy sits above roof height.
Tropical understorey backdrop: Underplant with gingers, philodendrons and cordylines for a layered rainforest planting.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 2 to 3m between clumps for a continuous palm row
Spacing (feature/avenue): 4 to 6m between clumps
Best Planting Season: Spring through to early autumn while soil is warm; avoid planting into cold winter soil in cooler districts
Soil & Drainage: Deep, friable, humus rich soil that holds moisture but drains freely; avoid clay pans and stagnant water
Establishment Care: Water deeply two or three times a week through the first two summers, tapering only once new fronds are emerging on schedule. Keep a 75mm layer of coarse mulch clear of the trunk base and feed with a palm specific fertiliser in spring and again in mid summer.
