Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Lovelight Camellia - Camellia japonica ‘Lovelight’
‘Lovelight’ carries large, clean white semi double flowers with a boss of golden stamens at the centre, and the contrast of that gold against pure white is what sets it apart from the many white japonicas. The plant is a classic Camellia japonica: upright, glossy leaved, evergreen and dense enough to work as structure rather than just seasonal colour. White camellias earn their place in shade because they lift dark positions in a way coloured forms cannot.
Why Lovelight Camellia
Luminous Flowers: Large white semi double blooms with golden stamens light up shaded beds through winter.
Upright Structure: A tidy vertical habit that suits narrow beds along fences and walls.
Glossy Evergreen Screen: Dense dark foliage provides year round privacy between flowering seasons.
Cold Season Display: Flowers from mid winter into spring, filling the gap before the garden wakes.
Long Lived: Camellias planted well are hundred year plants, not short term shrubs.
Ideal Applications
Shaded Boundary Screen: A row along a fence gives evergreen privacy plus a winter flower display.
South Facing Beds: The white flowers brighten cool, low light aspects that defeat most flowering shrubs.
Under Deciduous Canopy: Receives winter light and summer shade, which is exactly what camellias want.
Cut Flower Garden: Blooms float well in shallow bowls, a traditional use for white japonicas.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1 to 1.5m for a continuous screen
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2 to 2.5m as individual specimens
Best Planting Season: Autumn to early spring, out of summer heat
Soil & Drainage: Acidic, well drained soil rich in organic matter. Avoid alkaline ground, avoid heavy clay, and never plant with the root ball buried below surrounding soil level.
Establishment Care: Water steadily through the first two summers, especially from January onward when the following winter's buds are set. Mulch with pine bark or leaf litter, shield from hot westerly sun and drying wind, and feed after flowering with a fertiliser formulated for acid loving plants.
