Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Weroona Camellia - Camellia sasanqua ‘Weroona’
Australian raised sasanquas tend to be selected for garden toughness rather than show bench form, and this is one of those. Deep rose to red informal double flowers hang from arching, semi pendulous stems through autumn. Camellia sasanqua ‘Weroona’ is usually planted where the growth is free to fall, over a retaining wall, out of a balcony planter, or trained flat against brick.
Why Weroona Camellia
Pendulous Habit: Stems arch outward and down instead of upward, which gives a soft profile that clipped hedging cannot.
Deep Colour: The rich rose to red tone is at the strong end of the sasanqua range and stands out on grey autumn days.
Wall Training: Flexible young wood ties readily to wires, making it one of the easier camellias to espalier.
Low Input: Once established it needs little more than a mulch top up and a light trim after flowering.
Leaf Quality: Small, glossy, dark foliage stays clean through summer and provides a dense backdrop for the blooms.
Ideal Applications
Wall top and terrace edge: Positioned above a drop, the arching stems cascade over the face of the masonry.
Espalier on a fence: Trained flat it delivers autumn colour in a bed only 400mm deep.
Informal screening: Planted in a row and left unpruned it makes a loose, billowing evergreen barrier.
Large tubs: The weeping growth suits raised pots at an entry or beside steps.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1 to 1.5m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2 to 2.5m
Best Planting Season: Autumn and early spring
Soil & Drainage: Acidic, open textured and organic; add composted pine bark on clay and mound the planting position
Establishment Care: Water deeply twice weekly for the first summer and check moisture by hand rather than by the clock, as the shallow roots dry from the top down. Trim only after the last flowers drop, since cutting later removes the wood that carries next year's buds.
