Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Blue Atlas Cedar - Cedrus atlantica ‘Glauca’
Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca' is a full sized forest conifer with silver blue needles held in tight rosettes along stiff, horizontally tiered branches. Young trees are open and irregular, almost awkward looking; with age they broaden into the flat topped, layered silhouette that makes mature Atlas cedars landmark trees in parks across southern Australia. This is a long term planting for a large site, and it should never be squeezed into a suburban front garden.
Why Blue Atlas Cedar
Mature Scale: Becomes a genuine landscape scale tree, which is the point of planting one.
Foliage Colour: Silver blue needles read strongly against dark green backgrounds all year.
Branch Architecture: Tiered horizontal limbs give the layered profile that defines the species.
Drought Hardiness: Once established it needs little supplementary water in a Mediterranean climate.
Longevity: Lives for well over a century in suitable conditions, so it outlasts several owners.
Ideal Applications
Parkland Specimen: Given open ground it develops the full spreading silhouette.
Large Lawn Centrepiece: Anchors a substantial garden where nothing else needs to compete.
Rural Windbreak: Planted in a line on cool climate properties for shelter and structure.
Long Driveway Avenue: Repeated at wide spacing on acreage for a formal approach.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 8 to 10m minimum in a row, as it is not a hedging plant
Spacing (feature/avenue): 12 to 15m
Best Planting Season: Autumn to early spring
Soil & Drainage: Deep, freely draining soil, with no tolerance of heavy wet clay or humid tropical conditions
Establishment Care: Water deeply every week to ten days through the first two summers, after which it becomes markedly drought hardy. Stake young trees against wind rock and maintain a single leader, removing any competing shoot as soon as it appears.
Plant Details

Width: 6 to 10m
Growth Rate: Moderate
Foliage: Evergreen
Light: Full sun
