Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Kojo-no-mai Fuji Cherry (Standard) - Prunus incisa ‘Kojo-no-mai’
Grafted onto a clear stem, Prunus incisa ‘Kojo-no-mai’ becomes a miniature flowering cherry that sits at eye level, which is exactly where you want it, because the detail is the point. The head is built from fine zig zag twigs that look sculptural bare in winter, then break into small pale pink flowers from dark buds before any leaf appears. As a standard it holds a compact ball of growth on a straight trunk, so it suits pots, courtyards and formal pairs where a full sized cherry would never fit.
Why Kojo-no-mai Fuji Cherry
Trained Form: A grafted head on a clear stem gives a lollipop outline that stays small and needs only light annual shaping.
Winter Silhouette: The distinctive zig zag branching pattern is a feature in its own right once the leaves drop.
Early Flowers: Small pink flushed white flowers open from deeper pink buds in late winter, ahead of most other cherries.
Autumn Colour: Fine toothed leaves turn orange and red before falling, giving a second seasonal display.
Container Friendly: Slow growth and a restrained root system make it a genuine long term pot specimen.
Ideal Applications
Formal Pairs: Matched standards flanking an entry, gate or set of steps.
Courtyard Feature: A single tree in a small paved garden where a full sized cherry is impossible.
Large Planters: Grown in a substantial pot on a terrace or balcony in a cool climate.
Repeated Rhythm: A line of standards along a path or lawn edge, underplanted with low ground cover.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): Not a hedging plant, repeat standards at 1.5 to 2m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2 to 3m
Best Planting Season: Winter while dormant, or early spring
Soil & Drainage: Free draining, fertile soil that stays evenly moist, neutral to slightly acidic, and never waterlogged around the graft
Establishment Care: Water twice a week through the first summer and keep the stem staked until the head is self supporting, as grafted standards are vulnerable to wind rock. Mulch away from the trunk, remove any suckers or shoots appearing below the graft union, and prune only lightly after flowering.
