Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Lowanna Spotted Gum - Corymbia maculata ‘Lowanna’
Spotted gum is the tree behind those smooth, dappled trunks that shed in patches to leave cream, grey and pinkish blotches, and ‘Lowanna’ is a named selection of Corymbia maculata grown for a more consistent habit than seedling stock. It is a large forest tree used for canopy on acreage, in parks and along wide verges, valued for a straight trunk, a high open crown and heavy winter nectar flow.
Why Lowanna Spotted Gum
Trunk character: Bark sheds in irregular patches to produce the mottled cream and grey trunk the species is named for.
Straight clean form: It naturally carries a single straight leader with a high branching point and an open crown.
Nectar flow: Cream flowers in the cooler months are a major nectar source for lorikeets, honeyeaters and flying foxes.
Light shade: The high open canopy filters sun rather than blocking it, so grass and understorey still grow beneath.
Tough and drought hardy: Established trees handle poor soil, dry summers and coastal exposure across eastern Australia.
Ideal Applications
Acreage canopy planting: Its natural role, given 10m or more of clear space in every direction.
Park and reserve avenues: Repeated in long lines where the mottled trunks read as a rhythm.
Rural driveway feature: Set well back along a long entry drive for a distinctly Australian arrival.
Habitat and revegetation work: Planted for hollow formation and nectar in wildlife corridors.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 6 to 8m centres in a shelter row
Spacing (feature/avenue): 10 to 15m, and well clear of houses, powerlines and drains
Best Planting Season: Autumn or spring; autumn suits warmer coastal districts, spring suits cooler inland ones
Soil & Drainage: Prefers deep, well drained soil but tolerates clay and moderate fertility. It does not like permanently wet ground and is only lightly frost tolerant when young.
Establishment Care: Water deeply once or twice a week for the first two summers, then leave it to rainfall. Mulch a wide circle but keep it clear of the trunk, use low-phosphorus native fertiliser only, and formative prune in the first few years to establish one dominant leader, since this is a very large tree at maturity.
