Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Curly Jade - Crassula ovata ‘Undulata’
The standard jade plant is a familiar thing; ‘Undulata’ is the version worth looking at twice. Its leaves are narrower and twist and ripple along their length, so the whole shrub has a restless, curled texture instead of the flat paddles of the plain form. Crassula ovata builds a woody, branching trunk with age, which is why a large specimen reads as a miniature tree rather than a succulent.
Why Curly Jade
Leaf form: Wavy, twisted blue-green leaves catch light differently along every edge, giving unusual texture at close range.
Woody framework: Older plants develop a thick, gnarled trunk and branch structure with real presence.
Winter flowering: Clusters of small starry flowers open in late autumn and winter when little else is in bloom.
Water thrift: Stores water in leaf and stem, so it survives long gaps between waterings.
Container performance: Tolerates root restriction better than almost any other feature shrub.
Ideal Applications
Feature pots: A specimen in a wide bowl works as sculpture on a terrace or by an entry.
Dry courtyard beds: Combines with agave, aloe and gravel where irrigation is minimal.
Coastal gardens: Handles salt wind and sandy soil in frost-free coastal positions.
Sheltered indoor and atrium planting: Copes with bright indoor light better than most succulents.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.8 to 1m for a low informal mass
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.5 to 2m
Best Planting Season: Spring through summer, into warm soil
Soil & Drainage: Gritty, very free-draining mix. Heavy soils and winter wet cause stem and root rot, and it is frost tender, so avoid cold hollows.
Establishment Care: Water lightly every ten to fourteen days over the first warm season and let the soil dry right out between waterings. Use gravel mulch, keep foliage dry where possible, and hold off water almost completely through a cold, wet winter.
