Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Dypsis ambositrae
Dypsis ambositrae is a Madagascan palm valued for its silvery blue-green crownshaft and clean, upward-arching fronds, and it is notably more tolerant of cool nights than most of its tropical relatives. It comes from the highlands near Ambositra and is critically endangered in the wild, so cultivated plants carry real conservation value alongside their landscape value. In design terms it gives the refinement of a golden cane without the untidy suckering mass.
Why Dypsis ambositrae
Silver Crownshaft: The waxy blue-grey crownshaft is the plant's signature and reads from a distance.
Cool Tolerance: Handles highland-style conditions, so it succeeds further south than most Dypsis.
Clean Habit: Old fronds abscise neatly, keeping maintenance and litter low.
Upright Form: Fronds arch upward rather than outward, so it suits narrower planting beds.
Conservation Interest: A genuinely rare species, cultivated stock of which helps preserve it.
Ideal Applications
Feature Palm Grouping: Planted in odd-numbered groups of staggered heights for a natural grove.
Poolside Planting: Low litter drop and elegant form make it well suited to pool surrounds.
Entry Statement: A single specimen against a rendered wall makes the crownshaft the focal point.
Subtropical Coastal Garden: Performs along the warm-temperate east coast where fully tropical palms struggle.
