Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Jucara Palm - Euterpe edulis
Euterpe edulis is the slender, single-trunked palm of Brazil's Atlantic coastal forest, a close relative of the acai palm and grown commercially there for heart of palm. In the garden its appeal is proportion: a very thin ringed trunk, a bright crownshaft and a small crown of finely divided, drooping fronds that move constantly. Plant it in groups of three or five rather than singly, because the thin trunks read best in multiples.
Why Jucara Palm
Slim trunk: One of the narrower feather palms available, so it can be used close to structures and paths.
Drooping fronds: Soft, pendulous leaflets give a graceful, non-rigid canopy.
Crownshaft colour: A distinct green to bronze crownshaft below the leaves adds a clean architectural detail.
Shade tolerance: A true understorey species, so it grows well in filtered light beneath larger trees.
Grouping quality: Multiple trunks planted together create the layered look of a rainforest interior.
Ideal Applications
Rainforest underplanting: Sits below an existing canopy where full sun palms would not thrive.
Grouped grove planting: Set in odd-numbered clusters for a natural, multi-stemmed effect.
Narrow side gardens: The slim trunk and small crown suit tight subtropical spaces.
Atrium and courtyard planting: Works in sheltered, humid, partially lit internal spaces.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1.5 to 2m for a dense grove
Spacing (feature/avenue): 3 to 4m
Best Planting Season: Late spring to summer
Soil & Drainage: Deep, humus-rich, consistently moist but well-drained soil. It is frost tender and needs humidity, so it is limited to tropical, subtropical and warm frost-free coastal gardens.
Establishment Care: Keep the root zone evenly moist with two or three deep waterings a week for the first year; it does not recover well from drying out. Mulch thickly with leaf litter or composted bark and provide shade cloth or canopy protection while the palm is young.
