Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Flash Indian Laurel Fig (Pleached) - Ficus microcarpa ‘Flash’
A pleached fig is a hedge lifted into the air. Ficus microcarpa 'Flash' is trained onto a clear single trunk with its canopy tied out flat on a frame, so the screening starts above fence height instead of at ground level. 'Flash' is the small leaved, densely branching selection of Indian laurel fig, and that fine branching is what lets the panel hold a crisp edge under regular clipping. Designers reach for it when a neighbour's upper storey needs blocking and there is no room for a wide hedge.
Why Flash Indian Laurel Fig
Elevated Screen: The clear trunk leaves the ground plane open for paths, garden beds or narrow side access.
Narrow Footprint: A trained panel is only a few hundred millimetres deep, so it fits against a boundary.
Leaf Size: Smaller, thicker leaves than the plain species give a tighter, more formal finish.
Clipping Response: Breaks readily from cut wood, so the panel stays dense with two or three trims a year.
Warm Climate Vigour: Grows quickly through subtropical summers and holds colour year round.
Ideal Applications
Boundary Privacy: A run of panels above an existing fence blocks overlooking windows.
Formal Driveway: Repeated at even spacing it creates a clipped green colonnade.
Pool Surround: Gives overhead enclosure without dropping heavy leaf litter into the water.
Podium and Rooftop: Suits raised planters where soil depth is limited and root barriers are already in place.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1.5 to 2m so panels knit into a continuous screen
Spacing (feature/avenue): 3 to 4m
Best Planting Season: Spring and summer in temperate zones, year round in frost free subtropics
Soil & Drainage: Well drained loam kept mulched, with root barriers strongly advised near pipes, pools and paving because the root system is powerful
Establishment Care: Water deeply twice a week for the first three months, then weekly through summer. Leave the training frame in place for at least two seasons and clip the panel two or three times a year to hold the shape.
