Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Grevillea plurijuga (Standard)
One of the showier Western Australian grevilleas, grown for large spider-form flower heads in deep pink to red set against soft grey-green divided foliage. Grevillea plurijuga comes from dry inland country where drainage is sharp and humidity is low, which is precisely why it is sold grafted: on its own roots it struggles badly in the eastern states, but on a robust rootstock and lifted onto a clear stem it performs as a formal small tree. The flowers are large enough to carry a courtyard on their own through winter and spring.
Why Grevillea plurijuga as a Standard
Flower Size: The blooms are big and boldly coloured, unusual among the fine-leafed western grevilleas.
Grey Foliage: Soft silver-grey divided leaves that hold colour through summer heat.
Grafted Performance: The rootstock lets a difficult western species grow in eastern soils and humidity.
Formal Shape: A clear trunk and shaped head give architectural order to a native planting.
Nectar Source: Honeyeaters work the flower heads persistently through the cool season.
Ideal Applications
Feature Standard: A single plant at a garden focal point where the flower heads are seen close up.
Dry Garden Structure: Raises the eye above a low planting of grasses, saltbush and other dry-country natives.
Matched Entry Pair: Two standards either side of an entrance for a native take on formal symmetry.
Raised Bed Planting: A raised or mounded bed delivers the sharp drainage this species requires.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): Not a screening plant. In a line of standards allow 2 to 2.5m between trunks.
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2.5 to 3m for repeated placement.
Best Planting Season: Autumn or spring, keeping clear of both frost and peak summer heat.
Soil & Drainage: Sharp drainage is critical. Gravelly or sandy soil, or a raised mound on clay, and no irrigation lines running against the trunk.
Establishment Care: Water weekly through the first summer only, keeping the foliage dry, and cut supplementary water once the plant is away. Stake until the trunk is rigid, use low-phosphorus native fertiliser only, and strip any rootstock shoots from the trunk immediately, as they outgrow the grafted head very quickly.
