Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Afrodite Adonicus Hibiscus - Hibiscus ‘Flamenco Adonicus Afrodite’
The Adonicus hibiscus were bred for a compact, densely branched frame rather than the loose open habit of older Hibiscus rosa-sinensis varieties, which is why they hold their shape in a pot and keep flowering close to the plant instead of on long whippy shoots. ‘Afrodite’ carries the series' thick, high gloss dark foliage as a backdrop to large single blooms, each lasting a day and replaced continuously through the warm months.
Why Afrodite
Compact Frame: Short internodes and heavy branching produce a bushy plant around 1 to 1.5m rather than a leggy shrub needing constant pruning.
Continuous Bloom Cycle: Individual flowers last a single day, but buds open in succession from spring right through to autumn.
Glossy Foliage: Thick, dark, high shine leaves give the plant presence even between flowering flushes.
Container Performance: The restrained root system and compact habit make it one of the better hibiscus for long term pot culture.
Heat Endurance: It flowers strongly through Australian summer heat and humidity, when many flowering shrubs shut down.
Ideal Applications
Courtyard Pots: A single plant in a large glazed pot gives months of colour in a small paved space.
Poolside Beds: Suited to hot, reflective pool surrounds in frost free coastal gardens.
Low Informal Hedge: A run of plants at 0.8m spacing forms a flowering divider around chest height.
Balcony and Terrace Colour: Compact enough for elevated positions where a full sized hibiscus would be unmanageable.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.7 to 0.9m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.2 to 1.5m
Best Planting Season: Spring and early summer, once night temperatures are consistently above about 12C
Soil & Drainage: Rich, free draining loam or premium potting mix, pH 6 to 7; it needs steady moisture but will not tolerate wet feet
Establishment Care: Water two to three times a week through the first summer and feed every four to six weeks in the warm months with a potassium rich flowering fertiliser. Prune lightly in early spring to shape and encourage new flowering wood, and shelter the plant or move the pot under cover where winter temperatures fall below about 5C.
