Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Orange Adonicus Hibiscus - Hibiscus ‘Flamenco Adonicus Orange’
Orange is the hardest colour to source in a long flowering shrub, and hibiscus does it better than almost anything else available in Australia. This Adonicus selection of Hibiscus rosa-sinensis carries large single orange trumpets against very dark glossy foliage, a combination that holds its intensity in strong summer light rather than bleaching out the way pale flowers do.
Why Orange Adonicus
Saturated Colour: Warm orange blooms read strongly at a distance and stand up to bright Australian sunlight.
Bloom Turnover: Each flower opens for one day, with fresh buds following, so the plant is rarely without colour in the warm months.
Bushy Structure: The Adonicus breeding gives short jointed, well branched growth that fills out from the base.
Sun Demand Suits Hot Sites: It wants a full sun, open position, which makes it useful in the hot western beds most plants dislike.
Coastal Tolerance: It performs well in frost free coastal gardens with some shelter from strong salt wind.
Ideal Applications
Hot Colour Schemes: Paired with red and yellow flowering tropicals for a high energy planting palette.
Driveway and Fence Beds: Fills hot narrow beds along a boundary that receive full afternoon sun.
Container Groupings: Three pots of mixed Adonicus colours make a movable summer display.
Poolside Planting: Suits the reflected heat and glare of a paved pool surround.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.7 to 0.9m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.2 to 1.5m
Best Planting Season: Spring to early summer, in warm soil
Soil & Drainage: Free draining fertile soil or premium potting mix; improve clay with gypsum and compost or plant on a raised mound
Establishment Care: Water regularly and evenly through the first summer, since drying out and then flooding is the fastest way to trigger bud drop. Feed through the growing season with a hibiscus or flowering plant fertiliser, tip prune in early spring, and watch for hibiscus beetle in the flowers during humid weather.
