Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Orange Jessamine (Ball) - Murraya paniculata
Murraya has become the default hedge plant of warm Australian gardens because it does three things at once: dense glossy evergreen cover, waves of white flowers with an orange blossom perfume, and a willingness to be clipped into any shape asked of it. Supplied as a finished ball, Murraya paniculata brings that formality to a bed immediately. The flower flushes are triggered by rain and warmth, so the scent tends to arrive in bursts after summer storms.
Why Orange Jessamine Balls
Perfumed Flushes: Clusters of white flowers scent an entire courtyard, repeating several times through the warm months.
Dense Glossy Cover: The small shiny leaves clip to a solid green surface with no visible gaps.
Fast to Recover: Reshoots quickly after clipping, so the shape can be reset easily.
Sun or Part Shade: Keeps form and flowers in both, which gives real flexibility in siting.
Warm Climate Reliability: A proven performer through the heat and humidity of Sydney, Brisbane and northern coastal gardens.
Ideal Applications
Formal Courtyard Accents: Repeated spheres give structure to warm, enclosed, paved spaces.
Feature Pots by an Entry: A matched pair frames a door and delivers scent at the threshold.
Merged Clipped Hedge: Planted close, the balls grow together into a dense screening hedge.
Poolside Formal Planting: Tolerates reflected heat and gives evergreen structure with minimal leaf litter.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.6 to 0.9m for a merged hedge
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.2 to 1.8m as separate balls
Best Planting Season: Spring through to early autumn, into warm soil
Soil & Drainage: Free draining, fertile soil with organic matter. It tolerates a range of soils but declines in cold wet clay.
Establishment Care: Water regularly through the first two summers so the plant is never allowed to wilt, which causes leaf drop and bare patches. Mulch the root zone, feed in spring and midsummer, clip after each flower flush, and shelter young plants from frost until well established.
