Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Crimson Cascade Weeping Peach (Standard) - Prunus persica ‘Crimson Cascade’
A weeping ornamental peach worked as a standard gives you the whole effect at once: a clear straight stem, then a head of branches that arch over and hang almost to the ground, smothered in deep crimson double flowers before the leaves appear. ‘Crimson Cascade’ is grown for that late-winter to early-spring display rather than for fruit, and the umbrella-shaped head means the flowers are seen from below and from the side. Prunus persica needs winter chill and full sun to flower properly, which places it firmly in the southern and elevated parts of the country.
Why Crimson Cascade Weeping Peach
Weeping standard form: The grafted head cascades from the top of a clear stem, so the shape is established from the day it goes in.
Flower colour: Deep crimson-red double blooms, richer than the common pink flowering peaches.
Timing: Flowers on bare wood in late winter to early spring, well ahead of most of the garden.
Small footprint: The head stays compact enough for a courtyard, a lawn panel or a large pot.
Defined silhouette: Even out of flower, the arching skeleton is a deliberate garden shape.
Ideal Applications
Lawn feature: A single standard in open turf where the cascading head can be seen all round.
Matched entry pair: Two either side of a gate or path gives strong formal symmetry.
Large containers: Suits a substantial pot on a terrace in a cool-climate garden.
Small courtyard centrepiece: Delivers a full seasonal display in a very small footprint.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): Not a screening plant; allow 2.5m if planted in a row
Spacing (feature/avenue): 3 to 4m
Best Planting Season: Winter, while fully dormant
Soil & Drainage: Well-drained, fertile loam, neutral to slightly acidic. Ornamental peaches are intolerant of waterlogging, and poor drainage is the usual reason a grafted standard declines.
Establishment Care: Water deeply once or twice a week through the first two summers, keeping moisture even rather than swinging between drought and flood. Stake the stem firmly until it can carry the weight of the head, mulch clear of the graft union, prune straight after flowering, and watch for leaf curl in spring, treating with a copper spray at bud swell if it has been a problem locally.
