Overview & Specifications

Peruvian Pepper Tree - Schinus areira

Few trees command a landscape with the effortless authority of Schinus areira. Its cascading canopy, fine-textured foliage, and sweeping weeping form deliver immediate presence, the kind of maturity that defines a serious project from the moment of installation.

Why Peruvian Pepper Tree

Striking weeping architecture: Cascading branch structure creates movement, visual depth, and a sense of established permanence.
Evergreen year-round: Consistent canopy retention provides reliable structure and greenery across all seasons.
Filtered canopy shade: Delivers light, dappled shade suited to outdoor living and entertaining zones.
Drought and heat tolerance: Performs with minimal intervention once established, well suited to Australia's dry and coastal climates.
Immediate specimen presence: Advanced stock delivers the maturity and scale that smaller nursery stock simply cannot.

Ideal Applications

Prestige feature tree: A singular specimen set into a lawn or open space commands immediate attention and anchors the broader landscape composition.
Avenue planting: Uniform spacing along driveways or property boundaries creates a flowing, cohesive statement at scale.
Shade canopy: Positioned over seating areas, terraces, or pool surrounds to provide filtered shade without visual heaviness.
Coastal and dry-climate landscapes: Complements Mediterranean, coastal, and water-conscious design schemes with its relaxed, naturalistic form.

Specimen & Installation

Spacing (feature/avenue): 8–12m

Soil & Drainage: Well-drained soils preferred; highly drought tolerant once established; tolerates poor, sandy or rocky soils; avoid waterlogged conditions
Establishment Care: Water deeply once or twice a week for the first 6–12 months to encourage deep root development, then reduce to occasional watering as the tree is highly drought tolerant once established. Apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds during the establishment period.
