Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Philodendron ‘Imperial Green’
‘Imperial Green’ is a self heading philodendron, which means it builds a tight rosette of leaves from a short central crown instead of climbing or trailing. The leaves are broad, thick and glossy deep green, held on short stiff stalks so the plant keeps a low, symmetrical, almost sculptural silhouette rather than sprawling. It is used where a shaded space needs mass and gloss at knee to waist height and where a climbing philodendron would demand a support and constant management.
Why ‘Imperial Green’
Self heading habit: No totem, stake or tying required, since the plant naturally holds a rounded clumping shape.
Leaf substance: The thick leathery leaves resist tearing and stay glossy in low humidity better than thin leaved aroids.
Shade performance: It keeps good colour and spacing in genuinely dim positions where most plants stretch and thin out.
Low maintenance: Old leaves are simply removed at the base, and the plant needs no pruning to hold its form.
Sap caution: Like all philodendrons it contains calcium oxalate and is toxic if chewed, so place it accordingly around pets and small children.
Ideal Applications
Interior planting: A reliable indoor specimen for living rooms, offices and lobbies away from direct glass.
Shaded courtyard beds: In subtropical gardens it massed under trees gives a lush understorey with no flowering to manage.
Covered terrace pots: Ideal for verandahs and undercroft areas with bright, filtered but never direct light.
Tropical understorey layer: Planted in drifts beneath palms and gingers it fills the ground plane with broad glossy foliage.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.6 to 0.8m apart for a continuous low mass
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1 to 1.2m apart, or used singly in a pot
Best Planting Season: Spring and summer outdoors in warm districts, any time of year for indoor use
Soil & Drainage: A chunky free draining aroid or premium potting mix, kept evenly moist but never soggy
Establishment Care: Let the top third of the mix dry before watering again, and ease right off through winter when growth stops. Feed lightly every four to six weeks in the warm months and keep it above roughly 10 degrees, since it is not frost tolerant.
