Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Assorted Frangipani - Plumeria spp.
Frangipani, Plumeria, is the plant that signals a warm Australian summer more reliably than any other: thick grey branches, broad leathery leaves, and clusters of heavily scented flowers from November through to autumn. This is an assorted selection, so colour will vary between white and gold, soft pink, apricot and deeper rose depending on availability. What does not vary is the habit, a broad low-branched crown that casts dappled shade and looks sculptural even bare in winter.
Why Frangipani
Fragrance: The scent carries several metres on a warm evening, which is why it is so often planted near outdoor living areas.
Long flowering: Flushes repeatedly through the warm months rather than giving one short burst.
Winter silhouette: Drops its leaves in cooler weather and stands as a candelabra of pale grey limbs, a genuine architectural asset.
Drought hardiness: Thick succulent branches store water, so established trees need very little once settled.
Coastal tolerance: Handles salt-laden air and sandy soils well, provided drainage is free.
Ideal Applications
Poolside planting: Non-invasive roots and a light leaf drop make it one of the better trees near a pool surround.
Courtyard shade: The wide flat crown throws soft shade over a paved entertaining area.
Coastal and resort gardens: Sets the tropical tone alongside palms, cordylines and strappy foliage.
Large containers: Grows happily in a substantial pot for years, which suits balconies and rooftop terraces.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 3 to 4m for a loose informal group
Spacing (feature/avenue): 5 to 6m to allow the crown to spread
Best Planting Season: Spring and early summer, once soil has warmed; avoid planting into cold wet ground
Soil & Drainage: Sandy or gravelly free-draining soil is essential; wet feet in winter is the single most common cause of failure
Establishment Care: Water moderately through the first warm season and then reduce sharply, keeping the plant almost dry over winter. Mulch lightly, protect from frost in its first two winters, and site it out of cold southerly wind in Sydney, Perth and Adelaide gardens.
