Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Fiji Fan Palm - Pritchardia pacifica
Few palms deliver a leaf as broad and as flat as Pritchardia pacifica, whose stiff, pleated, near-circular fans can reach well over a metre across and sit almost horizontally on short stalks. Held on a clean, slim, pale grey trunk, the effect is a tight formal crown that reads as deliberate architecture rather than tropical clutter. It is the palm to specify where a designer wants the silhouette of a fan palm without the drooping, shredded look that windier species develop.
Why Fiji Fan Palm
Enormous Flat Fans: Undivided pleated leaves over a metre wide create a bold, sculptural crown unlike any other cultivated fan palm.
Slim Clean Trunk: A smooth grey ringed trunk of modest diameter takes up very little floor space in a courtyard.
Self Cleaning Crown: Older fronds shed reasonably tidily, reducing the ladder work compared with fibrous-trunked palms.
Compact Crown Spread: The head stays tight and vertical rather than sprawling, so it suits narrow tropical light wells.
Shade Adaptable: Young plants grow well in filtered light beneath larger canopy, then push through as they gain height.
Ideal Applications
Sheltered Courtyard: Walls that block strong wind keep the fans intact, which is the whole reason to plant it.
Resort and Pool Landscapes: Groups of three at staggered heights give the Pacific island character clients ask for.
Tropical Entry Statement: A matched pair flanking a doorway in Cairns, Townsville or Darwin gives the entry a formal frame.
Atrium and Light Well: Tolerates the reduced light and still air of an enclosed internal courtyard better than most feather palms.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 2 to 2.5m for a grouped palm run
Spacing (feature/avenue): 3.5 to 4.5m
Best Planting Season: Wet season and warm months; avoid planting into cool soil
Soil & Drainage: Rich, moisture-retentive but free-draining soil; keep it away from cold heavy clay and never let it dry out completely
Establishment Care: Keep the root zone consistently moist for the first two years, watering every second day through the dry season in northern districts. Mulch generously to 100mm, feed with a palm-specific fertiliser three times through the warm season, and site it out of persistent wind so the fans do not tear.
