Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Pink Cascade Weeping Cherry (Standard) - Prunus yedoensis x incisa ‘Pink Cascade’
This is a top worked standard, meaning the weeping variety is grafted at the top of a straight clear stem so every branch falls from that single point. The practical consequence matters: the tree's height is largely set the day it is planted and it widens rather than climbs, which is why Prunus ‘Pink Cascade’ suits courtyards and lawns where a normal cherry would outgrow the space. Soft pink single blossom covers the falling branches in early spring, before the leaves appear.
Why Pink Cascade Weeping Cherry
Curtain of Blossom: Flowers open along the entire length of the weeping branches, creating a full skirt of pink rather than a scattered display.
Predictable Height: Because the graft sits at the top of the stem, the tree stays close to its planted height for life.
Fine Branch Structure: Bare winter branches make a clean linear silhouette that reads well against paving and rendered walls.
Autumn Colour: Foliage turns yellow through apricot before dropping, giving a second season of interest.
Modest Root Zone: A restrained root system means it can be planted nearer to paths and paving than most deciduous trees.
Ideal Applications
Lawn Centrepiece: A single specimen in open turf shows the weeping form from every angle.
Paired Entry Statement: Two matched standards frame a gate or front door with strong symmetry.
Small Courtyard Garden: The compact footprint suits enclosed spaces that cannot carry a full sized flowering cherry.
Large Planters: Works well in a substantial pot on a terrace, provided drainage and summer watering are attended to.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 3 to 4m for an informal row
Spacing (feature/avenue): 4 to 5m
Best Planting Season: Winter, while fully dormant
Soil & Drainage: Moisture retentive but genuinely free draining loam; cherries decline fast in soil that stays wet
Establishment Care: Stake for the first two years so the head does not rock the graft, and water deeply once a week through the first two summers with a 75mm mulch layer kept off the trunk. Remove any shoots that emerge on the trunk below the graft, and limit pruning to light thinning immediately after flowering, since cherries are prone to disease through cuts made in wet weather.
