Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Mini Capital Ornamental Pear - Pyrus calleryana ‘Mini Capital’
‘Mini Capital’ takes the tight upright habit that made ‘Capital’ the default narrow street tree and brings it down to a size that fits a suburban block. Pyrus calleryana in this form holds a slim, near columnar outline with glossy dark green leaves that turn plum purple and red before dropping, and covers itself in white blossom at the end of winter. It is specified where a boundary needs deciduous height in a strip of soil too narrow for anything else.
Why Mini Capital Ornamental Pear
Narrow column: A slim upright crown means it can be planted close to fences, driveways and building lines.
Early blossom: Clouds of white flowers open in late winter to early spring, well before most deciduous trees wake up.
Reliable autumn colour: Foliage turns burgundy, plum and scarlet even in mild Australian districts where many trees stay green.
Winter light: Losing its leaves lets winter sun into rooms and gardens that an evergreen screen would keep dark.
Urban toughness: Tolerates compacted soil, reflected heat, wind and general urban abuse better than most ornamental trees.
Siting note: Callery pear has naturalised in parts of south eastern Australia, so keep plantings away from bushland and remove any self sown seedlings.
Ideal Applications
Narrow boundary screen: A row planted tightly gives a deciduous privacy wall between closely built houses.
Driveway edge: Slim enough to line a driveway without branches intruding on vehicle clearance.
Small courtyard tree: Delivers a tree presence in a paved courtyard where a spreading canopy would not fit.
Repeated vertical accent: Used in threes or fives to punctuate a long garden bed or fence line.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1.2 to 2m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2.5 to 3m
Best Planting Season: Winter while dormant, or early spring in very cold districts
Soil & Drainage: Adaptable to most soils including clay, provided the site is not permanently waterlogged
Establishment Care: Water deeply twice a week through the first summer and once a week in the second, then rely on rainfall in most temperate districts. Stake against wind for the first two years because a narrow crown catches gusts, and prune only to remove competing leaders since the shape is naturally maintained.
