Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Robyn Gordon Grevillea - Grevillea bipinnatifida x banksii ‘Robyn Gordon’
‘Robyn Gordon’ was among the first of the big flowered grevillea hybrids and remains one of the most widely planted native shrubs in Australia. Raised in Queensland, it crosses the Red Silky Oak, Grevillea banksii, with the Western Australian fuchsia grevillea, Grevillea bipinnatifida, and takes the long flowering of one and the compact, spreading habit of the other. The result is a broad, rounded shrub of fern like leaves carrying deep pinkish red brushes in almost every week of the year.
Why Robyn Gordon Grevillea
Colour in Every Season: Deep pinkish red brushes appear year round, heaviest from autumn through spring.
Broad, Mounding Habit: It grows as wide as it is tall and keeps its foliage right down to the ground.
Drought Hardy Once Settled: After its first summer it carries on through dry spells on rainfall alone in most years.
Fine Fern Like Leaves: Deeply cut dark green foliage keeps a soft texture in the bed between flushes.
Fast Cover: Quick growth closes the gaps in a new bed within its first couple of years.
Ideal Applications
Front Garden Colour: A group of three or five fills a street facing bed with flower the whole street can see.
Wildlife Corner: Set among correas and native grasses, it anchors a nectar planting that keeps honeyeaters feeding through the year.
Sloping Bed Cover: Several plants knit into one flowering mass that holds a gentle bank and needs no edging.
Mixed Border Foreground: The rounded mound fronts taller natives and screening plants and fills the gap at their base.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.5 to 2m
Best Planting Season: Autumn, or early spring before the summer humidity builds
Soil & Drainage: Light, open soil with little phosphorus; on heavy ground, raise the bed so water drains away from the crown
Establishment Care: Water twice a week for the first month, then once a week until the end of its first summer, easing off once new growth is strong. Shorten the flowered tips by a hand's length once each main flush fades, and feed only with a low phosphorus native fertiliser. The leaves and flower heads raise an itchy rash on sensitive skin, so plant it a step back from narrow paths and prune it in gloves and long sleeves.
