Tahitian Lime Tree - Citrus latifolia 'Tahitian'
Citrus latifolia 'Tahitian' is the seedless lime behind most Australian home crops, a rounded evergreen tree that carries blossom and fruit at the same time across a long season. It is close to thornless, unlike the West Indian and makrut limes, so it can sit beside a path, a pool fence or an outdoor kitchen without becoming a hazard. Where a citrus needs to work as a landscape plant first and a crop second, this is the one that holds a tidy, glossy frame year round.
Why Tahitian Lime
Seedless fruit: the fruit sets without pollination, so it is uniformly seedless and heavy with juice.
Long cropping: the main flush ripens through autumn and winter, with scattered fruit hanging much of the year in warm districts.
Near thornless: mature wood carries few or no spines, which makes it safe near seating and traffic areas.
Manageable frame: a natural 3 to 5m ceiling keeps it in scale with courtyards and suburban blocks.
Fragrant flowering: white blossom scents the area around the tree in spring and again after summer rain.
Ideal Applications
Productive courtyard tree: a single specimen gives shade, scent and a usable crop from a small footprint.
Formal entry pair: matched trees in large pots flanking a door hold shape with light annual pruning.
Edible screen row: planted at close spacing the row knits into a low evergreen hedge that still fruits along its face.
Entertaining areas: glossy foliage and clean habit suit terraces and pool surrounds where fruit is picked as it is needed.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 2 to 3m
