Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Kathleen Tibouchina - Tibouchina 'Kathleen'
Tibouchina 'Kathleen' is a compact glory bush grown for the sheet of velvety purple flowers it throws across its canopy while most warm climate shrubs have finished for the year. It holds a tighter, more disciplined frame than the older tibouchina forms, so it can sit in a garden bed without swamping its neighbours or needing constant reduction pruning. Landscapers reach for it when a bed needs a block of true purple at a height that still reads at eye level.
Why Kathleen Tibouchina
Flower density: The blooms are carried in clusters across the whole outer canopy rather than at the tips alone, which is what produces the solid colour effect from a distance.
Manageable scale: At 2 to 3m tall and 1.5 to 2m wide it fits a suburban bed without the leggy sprawl of the larger tibouchinas.
Velvet foliage: The leaves carry a fine down that catches light, giving the shrub texture and presence even between flushes.
Fast recovery from pruning: A tip prune after flowering breaks the plant into multiple new shoots, so density is easy to build and easy to maintain.
Warm climate reliability: It performs strongly through coastal and subtropical eastern Australia where many purple flowering exotics struggle with humidity.
Ideal Applications
Mixed shrub border: Planted through a green border it supplies the seasonal colour break that evergreen structure planting cannot.
Informal low screen: A run at 1 to 1.5m centres closes into a soft flowering barrier along a side boundary or between garden rooms.
Courtyard feature: A single plant in a raised bed or large pot carries a small courtyard on flower colour alone.
Front garden statement: Massed in threes near an entry it gives a strong purple signal against rendered or light coloured walls.
