Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Star Jasmine - Trachelospermum jasminoides
Two plants in one, which is the reason it turns up in almost every Australian landscape plan. Left to climb, Trachelospermum jasminoides twines up wire, mesh or a pergola into a dense evergreen curtain; left flat, it knits into a glossy dark groundcover that smothers weeds. Either way, late spring brings a heavy flush of small white pinwheel flowers with a scent that carries across a courtyard at dusk.
Why Star Jasmine
Fragrance: The late spring flush is powerfully perfumed, strongest in still evening air.
Dual Habit: Climbs to 5m with support or spreads as a 300mm high groundcover with none.
Evergreen Density: Holds full leaf cover year round, so a green wall stays green through winter.
Well Behaved Roots: Twines rather than clinging with damaging aerial roots, and does not lift render or mortar the way ivy does.
Shade Flexibility: Flowers best in sun but keeps good foliage cover in part shade where few evergreen climbers hold density.
Ideal Applications
Green Wall Or Fence: Trained onto a wire frame to convert a bare fence or blade wall into living green.
Pergola And Archway: One plant per post, tied up until it takes hold, then left to fill the overhead structure.
Mass Groundcover: Planted in blocks under trees and along embankments to replace mown grass.
Balustrade Softening: Grown through pool fencing and balustrades to soften hard lines and add privacy.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.8 to 1m along a wall or wire frame
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1 to 1.5m, one plant per pergola post, or 0.5 to 0.75m for groundcover mass
Best Planting Season: Autumn or spring, avoiding the peak of summer heat
Soil & Drainage: Adaptable to most soils with reasonable drainage, from sand to improved clay, neutral to slightly acid
Establishment Care: Water twice weekly for the first three months while the plant is still relying on its pot rootball, then weekly through the first summer. Mulch to 50mm, tie new shoots onto the support early rather than untangling them later, and cut the whole plant back hard after flowering every few years to stop the base going woody and bare.
Plant Details
