Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Yuma Crepe Myrtle - Lagerstroemia ‘Yuma’
Lagerstroemia ‘Yuma’ carries medium lavender flowers in large conical trusses from midsummer into early autumn. It grows into a multi stemmed small tree of intermediate size, larger than the semi dwarf ‘Zuni’ and well short of the big avenue selections. Its light grey bark flakes away in thin pieces to leave smooth, pale trunks.
Why Yuma Crepe Myrtle
Lavender Trusses: The flower heads are large and dense, so the whole crown turns lavender at the height of summer.
Mildew Resistance: With Lagerstroemia fauriei in its parentage, it resists the powdery mildew that spoils the leaves of older crepe myrtles in humid summers.
Multi Stemmed Frame: Several clean trunks rise from the base, so the bare tree reads as sculpture through winter.
Yellow to Russet Leaf Fall: Before dropping, the leaves pass from yellow orange to russet over a few autumn weeks.
Garden Scale: Large enough to shade a west window or frame an entry, yet compact enough for a suburban front garden.
Ideal Applications
Driveway Edge: A line along one side of a drive puts lavender colour against dark paving and pale render each summer.
Lawn Specimen: Set alone in turf, it has room to develop its full multi stemmed form.
Against Dark Hedging: In front of a clipped dark green hedge, the lavender trusses and pale trunks stand out sharply.
Cool Toned Planting Schemes: The flowers sit well above white flowered groundcovers, grey leaved westringia and pale stone.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (feature/avenue): 3 to 4m
Best Planting Season: Late winter into spring as the tree breaks dormancy, or autumn
Soil & Drainage: Any well drained soil from sandy loam to clay loam, slightly acidic to neutral; avoid low spots that hold water after rain
Establishment Care: Give a long soak each week from planting through its first summer, and after that only when a dry spell runs past a fortnight. Prune in late winter by removing crossing stems and thin twiggy growth, and leave the main stems unlopped, since cutting them back to stumps spoils the natural vase form.
