Overview & Specifications

Brisbane Box (Lophostemon confertus)

One of Australia's most reliable large-canopy natives, Brisbane Box delivers year-round structure, deep shade, and striking mottled bark that only improves with age. At advanced sizes, it arrives with immediate presence, no years of waiting for results.

Why Brisbane Box

Urban Resilience: Tolerates poor soils, pollution, and heat without compromise.
Evergreen Canopy: Dense, deep green foliage provides consistent coverage and shade across all seasons.
Distinctive Bark: Mottled, peeling bark adds genuine textural character to streetscapes and formal landscapes alike.
Drought Tolerance: Once established, performs with minimal intervention in dry and coastal conditions.
Screening Mass: Planted in rows, forms a substantial, long-lived windbreak or privacy barrier.

Ideal Applications

Avenue & Street Planting: A proven performer in urban and suburban streetscapes requiring durability and canopy.
Feature & Shade Tree: Commands attention as a standalone specimen on open lawns or prestige residential properties.
Windbreak & Screening: Planted in rows at tighter spacing to form a dense, evergreen barrier on rural and coastal projects.
Challenging Sites: Well-suited to exposed, dry, or degraded landscapes where lesser species struggle.

Specimen & Installation

Spacing (screening/hedge): 3–5m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 8–12m
Planting Season: Spring to early summer
Soil & Drainage: Adaptable to a wide range of soils including clay, loam and sandy soils; prefers well-drained but tolerates moderately moist conditions
Establishment Care: Water deeply two to three times per week for the first 12 weeks, then gradually reduce to once a week through the first dry season. Apply a 75–100mm layer of mulch around the root zone, keeping it clear of the trunk, to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
