Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Foambark - Jagera pseudorhus
Foambark takes its name from the saponins in its bark, which lather when the bark is rubbed in water. Jagera pseudorhus is an east coast Australian rainforest tree with finely divided pinnate foliage that hangs in soft ferny sprays, flushing bronze and coppery red on new growth. It grows as a slender pioneer in the forest and forms a neat, upright, well proportioned shade tree in cultivation, which is why it turns up in subtropical street and park plantings as well as in revegetation work.
Why Foambark
Leaf Texture: Long pinnate leaves in drooping sprays give a fine, almost fern like canopy that is unusual among Australian rainforest trees.
New Growth Colour: Fresh foliage emerges bronze to coppery red and holds that colour for weeks before hardening to green.
Fast Cover: A pioneer species by nature, so it establishes and shades quickly in a new rainforest planting.
Wildlife Value: Fruit and foliage support native birds and it functions as a nurse tree for slower rainforest species planted beneath it.
Fruit Hairs: The rusty capsules carry fine irritant hairs, so avoid planting directly over seating, pools or well used paving.
Ideal Applications
Rainforest Revegetation: One of the standard fast establishing species used to create canopy cover for slower plantings.
Subtropical Street Tree: Upright habit and moderate size suit verges and park edges in warm coastal districts.
Garden Canopy: Gives high filtered shade over an understorey of ferns, gingers and native shrubs.
Mixed Native Screen: Useful in a tall informal boundary planting while the slower species catch up.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 4 to 5m in a mixed screening row.
Spacing (feature/avenue): 8 to 10m.
Best Planting Season: Spring to early autumn in warm frost free districts.
Soil & Drainage: Deep, moist, organically rich and free draining, as in its natural rainforest margin habitat. Young plants appreciate shelter from hot wind and hard frost.
Establishment Care: Water twice weekly through the first summer, since young trees check badly if they dry out. Mulch heavily with leaf litter or composted bark and top it up annually, which mimics the forest floor conditions the roots expect.
