Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Ruby Falls Weeping Redbud - Cercis canadensis ‘Ruby Falls’
A weeping redbud does one job very well: it fills a small corner with structure and colour at eye level. Cercis canadensis ‘Ruby Falls’ pairs that cascading habit with deep burgundy, heart shaped leaves, so the plant holds colour for the whole growing season rather than only during bloom. Magenta pink pea flowers clothe the bare stems in late winter before a single leaf opens.
Why Ruby Falls Redbud
Habit: Strongly weeping branches fall from a grafted head, forming a fountain shape without any training.
Leaf Colour: Foliage emerges ruby red and holds deep purple burgundy through summer, softening to bronze green in heat.
Early Bloom: Rosy magenta flowers cover bare wood in late winter to early spring, well ahead of most garden plants.
Small Footprint: Mature size stays under about 2.5m, so it works in courtyards, planters and narrow side gardens.
Winter Form: Yellow autumn colour drops away to reveal a clearly weeping branch framework.
Ideal Applications
Courtyard feature: A single plant gives a small paved space its focal point.
Large pot or planter: Root system stays modest enough for a generous container with good potting mix.
Entry statement: Planted as a matched pair either side of a doorway or gate.
Mixed bed anchor: Dark foliage contrasts with silver and lime green perennials underneath.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1.5-2m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 3-4m
Best Planting Season: Autumn or winter while dormant, early spring in cold districts
Soil & Drainage: Moist, compost enriched, genuinely well drained soil, no tolerance of waterlogging
Establishment Care: Water deeply twice a week through the first two summers and more often in heat waves. Mulch well and shelter the plant from hot dry afternoon wind, which scorches the dark leaves quickly.
