Getting it in: the largest size here needs machine access rather than a doorway, and sometimes a lift over the roof. Measure the narrowest point on the route and tell us on the booking call. Standard access is included in the price, and anything unusual is quoted and agreed with you before work begins. What happens on installation day

Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Ficus ‘Green Island’ - Ficus microcarpa
With thick, rounded, glossy leaves closer to a jade plant than a fig, ‘Green Island’ is a dwarf, slow growing form of Ficus microcarpa. It builds a dense, mounding shrub that holds a tidy shape with only occasional clipping, so it is planted for clipped hedges, domes, standards and large containers in warm coastal gardens. Its measured growth and far gentler roots make it one of the few figs suited to a small garden or a large planter.
Why Green Island
Rounded Leaf Texture: Thick, coin shaped leaves give a soft, pebbled surface quite unlike the pointed foliage of other figs.
Holds Its Shape: Short internodes and slow growth keep a clipped form crisp for months between trims.
Salt and Heat Tolerance: It handles beachfront wind, sandy soil and heat thrown back from paving and walls.
Sun or Filtered Shade: It keeps its leaf in an open, sunny bed and under the dappled light of a high tree canopy alike.
Latex and Root Clearance: Cut stems weep a white latex that irritates skin and harms pets that chew it, and although its roots are mild for a fig, it is still kept back from sewer lines and pool walls.
Ideal Applications
Formal Hedge: Planted in a row and clipped at 1 to 1.5m, it forms a dense, rounded hedge around a lawn, front garden or courtyard.
Domes and Mop Heads: Kept as a dome on the ground or a mop head on a clear stem, it holds a smooth, rounded outline.
Tropical Underplanting: Clipped mounds sit beneath palms and taller tropical planting as a dense, glossy middle layer.
Statement Containers: Grown in a wide bowl or planter, it makes a sculptural, low maintenance specimen for a sunny terrace or a bright interior.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.8 to 1.2m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2 to 3m
Best Planting Season: Mid spring into early autumn, while nights stay mild
Soil & Drainage: Free-draining sandy loam or improved garden soil; copes with poor, sandy coastal ground but not with waterlogging
Establishment Care: Give a deep soak at planting and about twice a week until new leaves appear, then water only in long dry spells through its first summer. Mulch the root zone while keeping mulch off the stems, and trim lightly through the warm months rather than cutting hard in winter, when regrowth is slow.
