Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Bambino Fiddle Leaf Fig - Ficus lyrata ‘Bambino’
‘Bambino’ is the dwarf, densely branched form of the fiddle leaf fig, with leaves noticeably smaller and more rounded than the species and a habit that bushes out from low down instead of running straight up on a single stem. That makes it far more practical in a container or a sheltered courtyard bed, where a full-sized Ficus lyrata quickly becomes a leggy problem. It wants warmth, humidity and bright light without harsh direct sun, so in Australia it suits frost-free coastal and subtropical gardens and protected positions elsewhere.
Why Bambino
Compact Habit: Branches low and stays bushy, avoiding the bare-stemmed look that afflicts standard fiddle leaf figs.
Smaller Leaves: Rounded, deeply veined leaves at a reduced scale suit smaller spaces while keeping the recognisable form.
Leaf Texture: Thick, quilted, high-gloss foliage gives a bold sculptural surface that reads well in low light.
Container Suitability: Performs in a large pot for years, which suits balconies, atriums and rooftop planters.
Year Round Presence: Fully evergreen with no seasonal drop, so the visual screen never thins.
Ideal Applications
Courtyard Container Feature: A single plant in a large pot as the focal point of a sheltered outdoor room.
Warm Climate Garden Bed: Planted in frost-free subtropical gardens as a bold-leaved understorey shrub.
Interior and Atrium Planting: Excellent in bright indoor positions and covered light wells.
Low Screening in Shelter: Grouped along a protected wall for a dense green backdrop at eye level.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1 to 1.5m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2 to 2.5m
Best Planting Season: Spring and summer, when soil and air are warm
Soil & Drainage: Rich, free-draining, organic-heavy soil or a premium potting mix; roots must never sit in water
Establishment Care: Water thoroughly when the top few centimetres dry out rather than on a fixed schedule, since overwatering causes brown leaf edges and drop. Shelter from cold wind and frost entirely, feed monthly through the warm months, and wipe or hose the leaves occasionally so the glossy surface stays clean.
