Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
White Adriatic Fig - Ficus carica ‘White Adriatic’
White Adriatic is the fig that fools people: the skin stays pale green when ripe while the flesh inside turns deep strawberry pink and sweetens intensely. As a plant, Ficus carica gives you a low branched, wide spreading tree with large lobed leaves that throw heavy summer shade and then drop cleanly to reveal a pale sculptural frame. It is one of the most forgiving productive trees available for hot Australian gardens.
Why White Adriatic Fig
Flesh Colour and Flavour: Green skinned fruit with rich pink to red flesh, sweet enough to eat fresh and excellent dried.
Self Fertile: Sets fruit without a pollinating partner or a second tree, so a single plant is enough.
Heat and Drought Hardy: Once rooted it crops through dry summers that would stop most fruit trees.
Bold Foliage: The large deeply lobed leaves give a Mediterranean character no other common fruit tree provides.
Responds to Pruning: Cuts back hard and reshoots willingly, so it can be held at picking height or trained flat against a wall.
Ideal Applications
Courtyard Shade Tree: A single low branched fig gives summer shade over a paved sitting area and lets winter sun through.
Espalier on a Warm Wall: Trained flat against north or west facing masonry it ripens fruit early and takes up almost no ground.
Productive Garden Feature: Combines an edible crop with genuine ornamental presence in a small block.
Mediterranean Planting Scheme: Sits alongside olive, pomegranate, grape and citrus in a dry style garden.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 3 to 4m in a productive row
Spacing (feature/avenue): 5 to 6m as an open grown tree
Best Planting Season: Winter and early spring while dormant, or autumn in frost free districts
Soil & Drainage: Tolerates poor and alkaline soils but demands free drainage. Excessive richness and nitrogen push leaf at the expense of fruit.
Establishment Care: Water regularly through the first two summers and keep moisture consistent while fruit is swelling, since erratic watering causes splitting. Mulch well, and site the tree away from drains, paving and footings because fig roots are vigorous and opportunistic.
