Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Hyperions Glow Leucadendron - Leucadendron laureolum ‘Hyperions Glow’
Leucadendrons earn their keep in winter, and ‘Hyperions Glow’ is grown for exactly that: a compact Leucadendron laureolum selection whose upper bracts colour up gold and flush through warm apricot and red tones as the cool months progress. The structure is upright and neatly conical, with tightly held grey green leaves along stiff stems. It is the shrub of choice where a low water garden needs strong colour at the time of year when almost nothing else is performing.
Why Hyperions Glow
Winter Colour: The bract display builds through late autumn and holds for months across winter and into spring.
Neat Architecture: Growth is upright and self shaping, so it keeps a tidy conical outline with minimal intervention.
Drought Adapted: Cape Proteaceae are built for dry summers, and this cultivar needs very little water once settled.
Cut Stems: Stems are long, straight and long lasting in the vase, so the plant doubles as a cutting garden subject.
Poor Soil Tolerance: It actively prefers lean, sandy, low fertility ground where richer plants struggle.
Ideal Applications
Low water feature planting: Grouped in threes or fives through gravel gardens and dry coastal beds.
Coastal exposed positions: Handles wind and sandy soil in southern Australian seaside gardens.
Cutting garden row: Planted in a production row for winter cut foliage and coloured stems.
Contemporary border structure: Its rigid form contrasts well with grasses, westringia and mounding groundcovers.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 0.8 to 1m centres
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.5 to 2m centres
Best Planting Season: Autumn or early spring, into soil that is warm but not baking
Soil & Drainage: Sharply drained acidic sand or gravel; never use phosphorus rich fertiliser, manure or heavy compost
Establishment Care: Water weekly for the first three months, then only during extended dry spells, since wet feet is the main cause of failure. Mulch with coarse gravel or pine bark, keep the crown clear, and ensure open air movement around the plant.
