Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Euphorbia 'Cowboy'
A columnar succulent Euphorbia grown for pure architecture: upright ribbed stems that branch into a candelabra of vertical green columns, with fine paired spines along the ridges. It is specified for arid and modernist gardens where a cactus silhouette is wanted but the plant has to sit comfortably in a subtropical east-coast climate. Like all succulent euphorbias, the milky sap is caustic and irritating to skin and eyes, so it belongs away from play areas and paths people brush against.
Why Euphorbia 'Cowboy'
Vertical Form: Strong ribbed columns that give height in a bed only a few hundred millimetres wide.
Extreme Drought Hardiness: Stores water in the stems and survives long dry periods untended.
Heat Reflection: Handles radiant heat off paving, gravel and rendered walls without scorching.
Zero Litter: Drops nothing, so it suits pool surrounds and paved courtyards.
Slow Structural Change: Holds its designed shape for years rather than needing constant correction.
Toxicity warning: The white latex sap is a strong skin and eye irritant, so site it clear of play areas and wear gloves and eye protection if you cut it.
Ideal Applications
Arid Courtyard: Rises above gravel mulch and agaves as the vertical element of a dry composition.
Modernist Entry Bed: Sharp geometry that suits rendered and board-formed concrete architecture.
Large Feature Pot: Excellent container subject where soil drainage cannot be improved.
Low Water Streetscape: Suited to unirrigated beds in Perth, Adelaide and dry inland gardens.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1m to 1.5m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2m to 3m
Best Planting Season: Spring and summer, into dry warm soil
Soil & Drainage: Very sharp drainage is essential; sandy or gritty soil, raised beds on clay, no irrigation over the crown
Establishment Care: Water sparingly, roughly every two to three weeks in the first warm season, and not at all in winter. Mulch with gravel rather than organic material and wear gloves and eye protection whenever cutting or handling, as the sap is caustic.
