Getting it in: the largest size here needs machine access rather than a doorway, and sometimes a lift over the roof. Measure the narrowest point on the route and tell us on the booking call. Standard access is included in the price, and anything unusual is quoted and agreed with you before work begins. What happens on installation day

Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Aloe plicatilis - Kumara plicatilis
The fan aloe is one of the most architectural succulents in cultivation: a branched, slow growing shrub whose every branch ends in a flat fan of grey green, round tipped leaves. Long sold as Aloe plicatilis and now classified as Kumara plicatilis, it comes from the winter rainfall mountains of the south western Cape in South Africa. A stout grey trunk, symmetrical leaf fans and late winter spikes of coral red flowers give it more presence with each year in the ground.
Why Aloe plicatilis
Sculptural Leaf Fans: The leaves are held in two flat ranks, so each branch ends in a fan that looks drawn rather than grown.
Near Smooth Margins: The leaf edges carry only minute, soft teeth, none of the hooked spines of most aloes, so it sits comfortably beside paths and seating.
Late Winter Flowers: Short spikes of tubular coral red flowers rise above the fans in late winter and early spring, feeding honeyeaters when little else is in bloom.
Low Water Demand: Once established it lives on rainfall in most seasons and draws on the water stored in its leaves through dry spells.
Corky Grey Bark: The thick, fire resistant bark that protects it in its mountain habitat gives older trunks a weathered character.
Ideal Applications
Gravel Garden Focal Point: Set among low succulents and fine grasses, it anchors a gravel or rock garden.
Contemporary Entry Planting: Its geometry suits rendered walls, steel edging and minimal paving at a front entry.
Poolside Accent: Its tidy habit and low litter make it a clean feature beside pools and paved courtyards.
Statement Pot: Planted in a wide, heavy container, its slow growth keeps a crisp outline on a sunny terrace or rooftop for many seasons.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2 to 3m
Best Planting Season: Spring, before the summer storm season, or autumn while the soil is still warm
Soil & Drainage: Sharply draining, gritty soil such as decomposed granite or scoria worked into the ground; in high rainfall districts set it on a mound so water runs off the root plate
Establishment Care: Water once to settle the soil, then only every two to three weeks if no rain falls, letting the soil dry right out between waterings. Mulch with gravel rather than organic material and keep it clear of the trunk. The leaf sap is bitter and can upset dogs and cats that chew it, so keep pets from gnawing the leaves.
