Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Grevillea nudiflora (Standard)
Grevillea nudiflora is a prostrate species from south west Western Australia with wiry, almost leafless stems and small pendulous red to orange flowers carried on long slender stalks. Grafted and grown as a standard, those trailing stems fall from the head in a fine, almost thread like curtain, which is an effect no other grevillea produces. It is the plant to specify when the brief calls for movement and transparency rather than mass.
Why Grevillea nudiflora
Fine Weeping Curtain: Wiry stems hang in an open veil that moves in the slightest breeze and never reads as a solid block.
Sparse Foliage: The near naked stems are the feature, giving a linear, sculptural quality rather than a leafy dome.
Pendant Flowers: Small red to orange flowers dangle on long stalks below the stems, best appreciated when raised on a standard.
Grafted Adaptability: On its own roots this Western Australian species is difficult in eastern gardens, and grafting is what makes it viable in clay and alkaline soils.
Very Low Water Use: Once established it is one of the driest growing grevilleas available.
Ideal Applications
Retaining Wall Edge: Positioned above a wall the curtain of stems falls over the face and softens the mass.
Gravel Garden Specimen: The open habit suits a dry, mineral planting where a dense shrub would look wrong.
Elevated Planter: A large raised pot lets the weeping stems hang to their full length.
Contemporary Courtyard: Reads as a linear sculpture in minimal paved spaces.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1.5 to 2m for a repeated run
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2.5 to 3m
Best Planting Season: Spring and autumn, into warm dry soil rather than cold wet ground
Soil & Drainage: Sharp drainage is non negotiable. Sandy, gravelly or well mounded soil, neutral to acidic, with no irrigation basin around the stem
Establishment Care: Water sparingly, roughly weekly for the first three months and then only during genuine drought, because this species is far more likely to die from wet feet than from thirst. Keep phosphorus fertiliser away from it entirely, mulch with coarse gravel rather than fine bark to keep the collar dry, maintain the stake until the trunk is rigid, and remove any rootstock shoots from below the graft as soon as they appear.
