Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Candy Pink Bottlebrush - Callistemon ‘Candy Pink’
Soft pink brushes set this Callistemon apart from the crimson forms that dominate Australian gardens, and the colour reads far better against rendered walls, grey foliage and modern paving than a hot red does. It builds into a rounded medium shrub with fine, slightly weeping foliage and new growth flushed bronze. Where a native shrub has to look deliberate rather than bushy, this is the one that carries flower colour without shouting.
Why Candy Pink Bottlebrush
Flower colour: Clear candy pink brushes are unusual in bottlebrushes and hold their tone rather than fading to a dirty mauve.
Two flushes: Main display in spring with a reliable second showing in autumn where growth is kept moving.
Bird value: Nectar-rich brushes bring honeyeaters and lorikeets into the garden from the first season.
Wet and dry tolerance: Like most bottlebrushes it handles periodically waterlogged ground as readily as extended dry, which few flowering shrubs manage.
Responds to shearing: Trimming lightly straight after each flush keeps it dense and encourages heavier bud set.
Ideal Applications
Informal flowering hedge: Planted in a run it makes a soft 2m divider that flowers twice a year without formal clipping.
Native mixed border: Sits well with grevilleas, westringia and lomandra where a mid-height pink is needed.
Swale and drainage edges: Its tolerance of temporary wet feet suits rain gardens and low points that other shrubs resent.
Coastal gardens: Handles salt-laden wind in second-line positions behind the frontal dune.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): 1 to 1.5m
Spacing (feature/avenue): 2 to 2.5m
Best Planting Season: Autumn through early spring in temperate areas; any time outside heatwaves in the subtropics
Soil & Drainage: Adaptable to clay, loam and sand; prefers slightly acidic soil and accepts short periods of waterlogging
Establishment Care: Water twice weekly through the first summer, then weekly deep soaks are enough in all but the driest inland gardens. Mulch to 75mm, use a low phosphorus native fertiliser in early spring, and tip prune after the first flowering to build density from the base.
