Overview & Specifications
Price includes everything: the plant, free delivery and professional installation by our planting team. One price, whole job done.
Aloe ‘Bottlebrush’
A hybrid landscape aloe grown for its densely packed flower spikes, which stand well clear of the foliage and hold colour for weeks through the cooler months. Aloe hybrids of this type were selected to flower harder and more reliably than the wild species while keeping the same tolerance of poor soil and long dry spells. In an Australian garden the practical value is winter colour on ground that receives no irrigation at all, plus a steady supply of nectar for honeyeaters.
Why This Aloe
Flower Density: The raceme is packed tightly along its length, giving the brush-like effect the name refers to.
Cool-Season Colour: Flowering falls through the winter to early spring window when most gardens are flat.
Bird Attracting: The tubular flowers hold nectar and reliably draw honeyeaters and wattlebirds.
Clumping Habit: It builds a broadening clump of rosettes over time rather than staying a lone plant.
Near-Zero Water: Established plants live on rainfall across most of southern and coastal Australia.
Ideal Applications
Dry Border Massing: Repeated through gravel it gives a strong winter flowering display without irrigation.
Nature Strip and Verge: Copes with heat, neglect and reflected light where lawn fails.
Bird Garden: Positioned near a window it brings nectar feeders in close during winter.
Slope Stabilising: The spreading rosettes knit together on dry banks and embankments.
Specimen & Installation
Spacing (screening/hedge): Not a screening plant. Massed at 0.8 to 1m between plants for a closed drift.
Spacing (feature/avenue): 1.2 to 1.5m where used as repeated accents.
Best Planting Season: Spring and summer, while soil is warm.
Soil & Drainage: Free-draining sandy or gravelly soil. Heavy wet clay in winter is the usual cause of failure, so plant on a raised mound if drainage is poor.
Establishment Care: Water fortnightly through the first warm season only, and withhold water entirely once winter rain arrives. Use a gravel mulch rather than bark, keep it clear of the rosette centres, and cut spent flower stems off at the base to keep the clump tidy.
